Before viewing homes.
- Look through the MLS listings on my website to establish in what price range and area the homes with your “must haves” are. The “Homes for sale by price range” tabs below the main picture on the home page will assist.
- If you require more area or other information at this stage, contact me.
- If you are ready to buy when you see “your” home, ensure you are able to pay a 10% deposit in USD, CAD or Mexican peso at short notice and the balance of the purchase price a little later in cash.
- Suggestions for temporary accommodation if you are not in the Lake Chapala area already:
– reservations by the day
La Nueva Posada in Ajijic Centro close to the main square and with parking
– reservations by the month
“Birds of Paradise” near Laguna Mall and Walmart. BOP is a great complex with 2 bed/2bath condos with parking. Many of the owners are part time residents in Mexico and rent their properties out to other part timers when they themselves are up north.
– Or call in the assistance of Google. - Let me know when you will arrive in Lake Chapala or will be available for showings so I can arrange the first showings for you.
Free online Spanish lessons
In our area a large percentage of the population consists of English speaking expats and many local Mexicans can speak English. Once you venture outside Ajijic /the Lake Chapala area or the main tourist destinations in Mexico, some knowledge of Spanish will come in handy.
If you have the time and like to learn some Spanish before arriving in the greater Ajijic/ Chapala area, there are several online free and paid courses to assist you.
Google or try any of the following which I found helpful:
- Duolingo is great for people starting from zero
or watch the YouTube videos made by these Native Spanish speakers
- There are also multiple YouTube videos and online courses for once you have mastered the very basics:
Andrew Barr has both (paid) online courses and multiple free Youtube videos like this one
